Labeling Hardware Wallets for Household Maps

Custody maps fail when they say “the silver Ledger” and you own two silver Ledgers. We recommend a neutral numbering scheme applied with removable labels on device boxes, not on the hardware itself if you prefer — though a small inner-sleeve sticker visible only when opened works for some households.

Use Device 1, Device 2, paired with Site A, Site B on your map. Avoid nicknames tied to purchase year (“the 2021 one”) because replacements break the reference.

Document firmware version and model in the map appendix if you run mixed vendors. A Trezor backup procedure differs from a Coldcard multisig arrangement; your emergency contact needs to know which manual applies.

Photograph device exteriors for your private records, not for our files unless you consent during a session. The photo is for you to confirm which unit moved when someone swaps drawers during spring cleaning.
