Three-Site Storage Without Losing the Thread

Spreading custody across three addresses is sensible until nobody remembers which site holds the spare device versus the passphrase hint. Before adding a third location, assign each site a role: primary device storage, backup tier, or access clue only.

A home safe might hold the daily-use hardware wallet. A parent’s house holds a sealed paper backup. A bank box holds a metal plate. The mistake we see most often is placing two backup tiers at the same address “for convenience,” which collapses redundancy.

Draw a simple table with columns for site, what’s stored, who knows, and retrieval order. You do not need seed words in that table — reference codes suffice. If the table exceeds one page, your household probably needs a professional custody overview session rather than another envelope.

When institutions involved (bank boxes, registered mail holdings), note branch hours and ID requirements. Gwangju boxes do not help on a Sunday when the holder flies out Monday.

Finally, revisit the table when you buy a new device. Hardware refreshes are the most common reason separated storage silently drifts out of sync.
